Callin, Glen Edward "Cal"
Sun Prairie- Glen Edward "Cal" Callin, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5th, surrounded by his wife and children (just the way he would have wanted it). He was welcomed by many friends and family who entered the gates of heaven before him.
Glen was born on August 27th, 1936 in his family's farmhouse in Linden Township, WI. He attended Bloomfield, a one room country school followed by Mineral Point High School. Glen was an FFA member, chapter President, and received an FFA State Farmer Degree. Glen attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a BS in Agricultural Economics. During college he was also a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Glen went on to marry Mary Lou Kirby of Stoughton, WI on August 6th, 1960 and have three children.
Glen was the President and CEO of Production Credit Association of Madison, WI for 26 years. During his tenure the business grew and became the largest in the Midwest as well as one of the top five of the nation. While at PCA, he served on many Farm Credit Districts and National Committees. Glen then went on to serve as the Senior Vice President of Farm Credit Banks of St. Paul, MN.
During his career with PCA, Glen also served as Director and Treasurer of the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives, Director and Vice President of Wisconsin Agri-Business Council, and Trustee of American Institute of Cooperatives. During this time he received many awards such as the Wisconsin Cooperative Builder Award, the Farm Credit Eagle Award, and the Wisconsin Honorary Farmer Degree.
Glen also loved to serve in the Sun Prairie community. He was a previous President of the Sun Prairie Lions Club and continued on as member. During his time with Lions, he received great satisfaction as a volunteer transporter for the Lions Eyebank. In addition, Glen was a chairman to the United Methodist Church Board and served as Director and Charter Founder of the Sun Prairie Quarterback Club. Glen was also a member of the Wisconsin Manx Society as he took great pride in his Manx heritage.
Glen had many joys in life such as attending Badger Football games and was an avid Packers fan. However, the activities and sports his grandchildren participated in were the ones he enjoyed the most. In 1997, Glen renovated a cottage home in Minocqua where he and his family, as well as others, created many special family memories. Cal's Cottage was Glen's heaven on earth.
Glen is survived by: wife of 51 years, Mary Lou; son Greggar (Cheryl) Callin; son Gary (Kristin) Callin; daughter Amy (Jeff) Kuhnle; five grandchildren, Lauren, Drew, Anthony, Anna, and Jenna; sister Norma (John) Bircher. As well as two granddogs, Cooper and Tripper. Glen was preceded in death by his parents Alexander Claude (Sandy) & Genevieve Callin and his brother, Robert Callin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to St Mary's and Select Hospitals for the loving care and support during Glen's last year. Glen was loved and will be missed by countless friends and associates.
Visitation (2-4pm) and Service (4pm) will be held at the United Methodist Church, 702 North Street, Sun Prairie on Wednesday, April 11th. Food and refreshment celebration to follow. Memorials can be made in Glen's name to Agrace Hospice Care, an organization Glen strongly supported.
