Glen D. Gustafson

Madison -- Glen Gustafson, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2009 at University Hospital .   He was born on October 21, 19 21 in Hanley Falls , Minnesota , with his family moving to Minneapolis , MN as a child so he could attend public schools. As a young child Glen was involved with the Boy Scouts.   In 1940 Glen attended St. Olaf College in Northfield , MN for two years and then transferred to the University of Minnesota to take a course in Pre-Radar.   In 1944, he then completed the basic engineering course at the University of Chicago .   Glen served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a Sergeant with the 38th Bomb Group.   After being honorably discharged, Glen attended the University of Minnesota and received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree in 1948. In 1946, Glen was united in marriage to Janet Lillegren of Madison at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis , MN .   Glen spent his career as an Electonic Engineer. He was a Professional Engineer and a Certified Quality Engineer. Glen especially enjoyed his work with General Electric at the Johnson Space Center in Houston , TX during the Apollo flights.   He was very active and was in several professional societies, which would include: Masonic, Shrine, and Scottish Rite Bodies.   He was also a member of the Airstream Travel Club for 25 years. Glen was a past commander of VFW Post #9765 in Oakford , PA in 1957.   He enjoyed building model trains and ships and also built and flew model airplanes.   Glen always had his hands on a computer and most of all enjoyed spending his time as an amateur (ham) radio operator.   Glen is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janet Gustafson of Madison and nieces, nephews and cousins.   He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, sister, Joyce Boen (Mrs. Robert) of Minneapolis , MN and a brother Alan M. of Minneapolis , MN .   Private family services will be held.   Inurnment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
