Grace Ellen Cline Bohn

October 8, 1912 — January 15, 2010

Madison -- Grace Ellen Cline Bohn, age 97, died on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Attic Angels in Madison. She was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1912, the eldest of 5 daughters born to Silas and Grace Shaw. Grace lived in Mexico for 9 years where her father was Superintendent of Mines and her mother home-schooled the girls until they moved back to San Antonio, Texas. Grace's favorite past-time was reading from the extensive library of her grandfather, Col. Sanford Diehl, journalist, editor and later owner of The San Antonio Light daily newspaper.

Grace met her husband, Lewis M. Cline, while they were studying geology at Tulsa University in Oklahoma. They received their degrees and later moved to Ames, Iowa, where Lewis received his PhD and two daughters were born: Ellen and Cathy. Charles Cline was born in Madison, where Lewis taught and administered in the Geology Department until his death in 1971. Grace received her MS in education and continued teaching in the primary grades in the Madison area.

After retirement from teaching, Grace moved to Door County to begin another chapter of her life. She enjoyed volunteer work at the Hospital Auxiliary, the Miller Art Center, and the Republican Party; she also enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren and friends at her home on Lake Michigan. She was a charter member of Chapter DF of the PEO sisterhood in Door County. 18 years later, she and Haskell Bohn were married.

Grace's life was one of adventures in travel worldwide, competition in sports and academics, family life, geology field trips, student picnics, gardening, sewing, bridge and teaching. She was a devoted Episcopalian. The last chapter of her life-on-earth has closed. She didn't take time to write her book; she was too busy living it. We'll miss you, Mom. We love you.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Silas Shaw; three sisters, Mary Reynolds, Frederica Leith Glasscock and Dorothy Bonner; two husbands, Lewis Cline and Haskell Bohn. She is survived by three children, Ellen Sperling (Keith), Cathy Okray (Peter) and Charles Cline (Katrina); a sister, Connie Dove Marmon; six grandchildren, Virginia Mora (Angel), Sheryl Stathas (Jim), Dan Sperling (Kristine), Jim Okray, Beth Klingbile (Rob), Gregg Cline; and seven great-grandchildren, CJ Stathas, Kimberly Stathas, Alexandria Stathas, Kelly Mora, Alexander Mora, Alice Sperling and Matthew Cline.

A memorial service will be held at ATTIC ANGEL PLACE in the COMMUNITY ROOM on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Memorials can be sent and payable to ""UW Foundation -- Odyssey Project Fund 12543729"" at University of Wisconsin Foundation, US Bank Lockbox, P.O.
