Madison, WI - Grace Doreen Kammeyer was born January 19, 1939 in Decatur, Indiana. She was the first child of Dorothy and Norval Fuhrman. She grew up in Decatur on her parents' farm with her brothers John and Roy. After graduating from Decatur High School, she attended Parkview School of Nursing in Fort Wayne and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Following that, she was married to Richard Kammeyer, with whom she had 3 children: Beth (Scott) Fink, John Dean (Tammy) and Thomas (Joan). Richard passed away in 1970. In1981, she and her children moved to San Diego, where she met Robert Mernin, while working in the emergency room at Mission Bay Hospital. They were married October 10, 2001. While living in San Diego, she also went back to college and earned a Master's degree in Art History.
Grace and Robert moved to Madison Wisconsin in 2004, where they lived until her death on Feb 15, 2011 after a very brief illness. She loved her family, good food and wine, fine art, music, good coffee with good friends, and her golden retriever Holly. She was a caring but loving mother as well as a doting grandmother to Krystal, Lexi, Sam, Taylor, Ethan, Dana, and Jenna. She leaves behind her husband Robert, her children and grandchildren, her brothers John and Roy and their families, and many, many friends all over the country. We will miss her so much. She is gone too soon. Services will be Monday, February 21, 2011 at 1 pm at Cress Funeral Service, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. A visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of service on Monday at Cress. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to American Cancer Society, or to the American Players Theatre in Spring Green, WI.
