Madison - Grace Echols Wood, age 95 passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Meadowmere Assisting Living. She was born on October 3, 1918 in Enloe, Texas, the daughter of Adolphus and Mary (Eddington) Echols. In 1936, Grace graduated from Grand Prairie High School and then went on to Baylor Nursing School and received her nursing degree in 1939. On November 9, 1940, Grace was united in marriage to Sheldon Wood in Rockwall,Texas. Over the years, Grace worked for many nursing homes and in 1994 she retired from Rock County Health Care Center in Janesville as a patient care coordinator. Following her retirement, she kept busy working in home health. Grace was not one to stay idle. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, sewing, gardening and teaching Sunday School. Being a military wife, she was known for keeping a very tidy home and you could find her rebuilding carborators at her kitchen table to earn a few extra dollars to support her family.
Grace is survived by her three children; Sheldon (Linda) Wood Jr. of Lenexa, KS, Don (Lauretta) Wood of Madison, WI and Cindy Wood of Onalaska, WI, seven grandchildren; Sandra Wood, Pamela (Bryan) Jay, Bradley (Jessica) Mauderer, Betsy (Norm) Salt, Adam Wood, Hannah Wood and Sarah Wood, and a sister-in-law; Jennie Knechtges of Madison, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Leatrice (Roy) Echols, Mary Echols and Roberta (Mark) Tiner and a brother, A.E. Echols, Jr.
Private family services will be held.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace's physicians and to the staff at Meadowmere Assisted Living for all their attention and care given to Grace and our family.
