Gregory D. Hedden, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Oakwood Village West, Madison.
Born Sept. 13, 1919, in Louisville, Kentucky, the only son of Thomas and Gladys (Dexter) Hedden. United in marriage with Genevieve Groves on Sept. 9, 1950, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942, commissioned as second lieutenant, served to captain. After World War II attended University of Chicago, earning a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry in 1951. Carried out research in several capacities before joining the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he worked for 17 years.
Gregory Hedden is remembered by all as a cheerful, devoted family man with a good sense of humor, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons James Jeffrey Hedden of Madison and Thomas Dexter Hedden (Heather Behn) of Carlisle, Massachusetts; and his grandchildren Henry and Erika Hedden of Carlisle, Massachusetts.
