Gregory Alan Sturm, age 56, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018, from various complications due to his disabilities. He was born on May 5, 1961, in Beaver Dam. It was the same day that Alan Shepard became the first American astronaut to be launched into space, hence the middle name.

Greg spent the first years at home in the care of his parents. His early years were spent at Central Center of Madison due to the severity of his disabilities however for the last 25 years he has flourished in a group home setting. The family is so very grateful for the collaborative efforts of the many wonderful, caring people that have given Greg such a superb quality life these past years. We want to thank REM, Avenues to community and CSN. Greg's many talents were discovered by going to CSN on the weekdays. He loved to draw and paint. One of his pieces was on display during the exhibition at the Overture Center for the Arts. He also enjoyed music, bowling and thanks to his buddy Nate and staff he thrived and was very happy. In addition, he loved going to Badger Camp every summer. At home he loved making brownies with his pal Phil, paging through catalogs, watching his Cars movies, being read too, the color blue or just hanging out with Fatou and his other pals. Greg had a captivating personality and loved his everyday routine and the people he was with every day. He was incredibly special and was loved and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Greg is survived by his parents Norbert and Kathryn Sturm; his sisters Corinne Sturm and Nancy (David Van Lieshout) and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Randolph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the ICU at Meriter Hospital for making his last hours comfortable and his passing peaceful and painless.

Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics of Wisconsin in memory of Greg.
