Gwendolyn Robertson

April 11, 1931 — May 11, 2014

Waunakee / Sun Prairie, WI - Gwendolyn F. Robertson, age 83, passed away on May 11th, 2014 at the Agrace Hospice, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gwen was born on April 11, 1931 in New Milford, PA to Glenn and Faith Darrow. Following High School she joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Selfridge Air Force base in Michigan. While in the Air Force Gwen was given Top Secret clearance and worked transmitting communications to and from Washington, DC. During this time she met John "Jack" C. Robertson, one of the base jet engine mechanics as well as the quarterback of the base intermural football team. They first met at the base beer hall beginning a courtship that led to an October 29, 1955 base wedding.
Following their discharge, the young couple moved to Sun Prairie, WI to raise their family. Gwen embraced being a mother. She often said that her favorite holiday was Mother's Day. She also spent several years as a trainer for the American Girl company, remembering fondly the friends she made and the joys of teaching.
Gwen is survived by her husband Jack Robertson; her sons Michael (Audrey) Robertson of Middleton, WI, and Robert (Teresa) Robertson of De Forest, WI, her daughter Jacquelyn (Scott) Nerat of Waunakee, WI, and her six grandchildren Sam Robertson, Caitlin Robertson, Jillian Robertson, Kira Nerat, Faith Nerat, and Natalie Nerat. She is also survived by her beloved sister Susanne (Jeff) Lewis of New Milford, PA. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mick Darrow and Mel Darrow, and an infant sister.
Gwen was known for her strong will and her constant motto, "If you're going to do it, Do It Right!" Mom, we'll try our hardest to keep living up to your motto.
Funeral services will be held at SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South St, Waunakee, on Friday May 16th at 11a.m with Monsignor James L. Gunn. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the mass, at 10 a.m.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. Gwen's family would like to thank the staff at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, Meritor Hospital, and especially Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate and generous care.
