Gwendolyn Rose Schuster gained her angel wings and became pain free on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Gwen was born on January 24, 1966 to Robert Schuster and Edith (Bislew) Schuster in Racine, WI. She was the second born of 5 daughters. Growing up, everyone knew her as “Wendi.” As a child, she enjoyed drawing, dancing, baton, twirling, card games, and playing in the woods behind her house.
At the age of 17, her life changed forever when she was involved in a tragic car accident. This claimed the life of her mother and paralyzed her from the waist down. She was told she would never walk again, nor would she be able to ever have any children. She later went on to have 4 blessings, giving birth to three and adopting one.
In 1995, Gwen won the title of the first ever disabled Ms. Wisconsin. She participated in many motivational school presentations, parades, and television telethons. Over the years, Gwen had multiple illnesses and surgeries, including a leg amputation and surviving breast cancer. Through it all, she persevered and kept going for her family.
On March 24, 2000, she met the love of her life and best friend, Brian McIntyre. He was a big part in changing her life for the better. He loved her wholeheartedly and accepted everything that came along with her including a part in raising her three children. Together, they would later go on to share one more child.
Gwen was her youngest son’s biggest cheerleader in the front row at the majority of his baseball games. Gwen loved children and would help anyone in a heartbeat.
In her free time, Gwen enjoyed crocheting, drawing, spending time with family, or reading a book on the deck. She was known to her grandchildren as “Gaga.”
Gwen is survived by her husband of 23 years Brian McIntyre; her four children Thomas Seaton, Amber (Raymond) Davis, Angelica (Grace) Bybee, and Samuel McIntyre; and 4 grandchildren Rayeana and Atiyana Bybee, Ciara and Cairon Davis, and two step-grandchildren Kelvin and Elena Velasquez. She is further survived by her father Robert Schuster; sisters Maria (Bill) Barbeau, Julie (Jim) Nondorf, Linda (Brian) Hake, and Beth (Jim) Schuster; and countless friends and family. Gwen was preceded in death by her mother Edith Schuster.
Gwen’s family would like to thank the staff of SSM Health St Mary’s Hospital floor 5SW and the SSM hospice for the compassionate care they provided to her and her family in her final days.
A celebration of life for Gwen will be from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Orphan Park, 2050 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie, WI 53590.
