Middleton: Captain Harnek Singh Seerha, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at home. He was born July 28, 1937 in Punjab, India the son of Sardar Banta Singh and Bibi Shyam Kaur. He married Harbhajan Kaur in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Harnek Singh lived a long life surviving the 1947 partition and two wars. Before his retirement, Harnek was an Army Capitan of the 58th Engineering Regiment. With his beloved wife, Harbhajan, he raised three children. Briefly after moving to America, he helped create the Sikh Temple in Middleton, becoming the first president of the Temple. Up until his last days he was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives.
Harnek is survived by Balwinder Singh Seerha (son), Surinder Kaur (daughter), and Jasvir Singh (son). He was preceded in death by his wife Harbhajan Kaur.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705. A memorial service will follow at the Sikh Temple, 6970 Century Ave., Middleton, WI 53562.
