Harold Anderson

March 12, 1925 — September 22, 2020

MADISON – Harold D. ("Andy") Anderson, 95, of Madison, WI passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2020. He was born on March 12, 1925 in Duluth, MN to Emil and Anna (Ohrstrom) Anderson.

Harold grew up in Duluth, MN and moved to Madison, WI near the beginning of World War II where he served as a Communications Instructor (Radio Mechanics Course) at Truax Field. While stationed at Truax, Harold met Evelyn (Gruen) during a dance hosted by the military. To hear him tell it, it was love at first sight. Soon after on June 26, 1946, Harold and Evelyn got married and settled on the West Side of Madison.

After honorable discharge from the United States Army, Harold attended UW Madison on the GI Bill where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. In 1953, Harold established and opened the Madison Church Supply store, Madison's first religious bookstore. The store provided religious materials, publications, and supplies to churches across the nation and served as a regional meeting space for church leaders. Harold owned and operated the store for 35 years until his retirement in 1988.

Harold thoroughly enjoyed life and found great joy in golfing at Odana, working in his workshop at home, hosting friends on Lake Wisconsin, and spending quality time with family.

Harold is survived by his children, Mark (Lori) Anderson and Karen Zinkgraf (Roger); grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin (Lacey), Alexander (Mary), and Maren Anderson, Chelsea (Alexander), Anna (Andrew), Zachary, and Molly Zinkgraf; his brother-in-law, Lyle Gruen (Sue); his nieces Donna and Deb (Jeff); his nephew David; his great-nephew Jonathan; his Niece Carole Lent (Bob), Brian Nelson, and other dear family and friends.

Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Harold's honor be made to:
