Harriet Long

July 24, 1917 — January 14, 2012

Stoughton, WI/DeKalb, IL- Harriet L. Long, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. She was born in Malta, IL on July 24, 1917, the daughter of Andrew and Lucy (Lee) Anderson. Harriet lived most of her life in the DeKalb, IL area. On February 16, 1938 she married Virgil Long. Harriet worked at the DeKalb County Home for over 20 years. She was a member of the Methodist church and Ladies Auxiliary. Harriet enjoyed playing cards, drawing and traveling, she visited all 50 states and Canada. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Harriet is survived by her children, Richard (Alice) Long of Stoughton, WI, Robert (Jeannine) Long of Knoxville, TN and Shirley (Denzil) Marten of Franklin, IN; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cecily, James, John, Anne, Brian and Lynette; and 11 great grandchildren, Sarah, Danielle, Lydia, Bennett, Zachary, Bethany, Owen, Marianne, Abigail, Mitchell and Cody. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Leonard and Ellis; and sister, Gurney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South 4th Street, DeKalb, IL. Burial will take place in Malta Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Skaalen Friendship Circle, 400 N. Morris Street, Stoughton, WI, 53589.
