Helen Bartlett

FITCHBURG- Helen Bartlett, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 25, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born September 17, 1921 in Detroit, MI. to the late August and Mary (Kuretic) Dugar. She married Edward "Joe" Bartlett on Christmas Eve, 1940. Helen worked in an airplane factory in Detroit while her husband served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Postwar, the couple moved to Southgate Michigan, a new Detroit suburb, where they raised and nurtured a daughter Delphine, and a son Lee Alan. After her husband died suddenly in 1974, Helen learned to drive, and took in her parents and sister-in-law until the end of their lives. She moved her household to Greenville in west Michigan to be closer to her children and their families. In the 1980's she moved to New Port Richey, Florida, where she lived until 2007. She enjoyed her life in a Florida retirement community and had many friends with whom she loved to dance and play cards. She also enjoyed many visits and outings with her children and grandchildren during the Florida years. She then moved to Madison in 2007 to be near family due to health concerns. Her home became Willow Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care in Verona until her death.
Helen is survived by her daughter Del (Alex) Wells of New Port Richey, Florida, and son Lee (Terri) Bartlett of Madison. She has 5 grandchildren: Michael (Jen) Wells of Madison, Lisa Wells of Fitchburg, Mandy (Dan) McMurtrie of Ann Arbor, MI., Paul (Sara) Bartlett of Verona, and Coryn (Casey) Petersen of Inver Grove Heights, MN, as well as 9 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 34 years Edward "Joe", brothers John, Gus and Albert.
Per Helen's wishes, there are no memorial services planned.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Pointe in Verona and Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg for their loving care.
