MADISON - Helen J. Bewick, at 95, passed away on Sat. July 1, 2017 in Madison. She was born Feb. 18, 1922 in Madison, to the late T.L. and Paula (Zedler) Bewick. Helen went to Randall School and West High School, and graduated from UW Madison. She worked for many years with the American Red Cross, as a field director in military hospitals. After 21 years with the Red Cross, she retired to Madison were she was active the with the Madison Civics Club, Madison Women's Club, the Association of University Women, Association of Red Cross Employees and the UW Alumni Association. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. In 2002 Helen moved to Meriter Heights Retirement Center where she enjoyed the friendly residents and staff and exceptional services. As a younger person, Helen was active in musical activities, choirs, operas and contests. Always an avid reader, she was interested in politics, the environment, history and social issues like Special Olympics, Amnesty International, the Madison Symphony and Opera, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Nature Conservancy, several Humane Societies, Handicapped Artists, Handgun Control and Common Cause.
Helen is survived by her nephew John T. (Elna) Bewick, niece Gayl O'Donnell, grandniece Helen Lis Bewick and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother T.L. Bewick Jr., sister-in-law Dorothy Taylor Bewick, and nephew T.L. Bewick III.
Per Helen's wishes, there will be a private service at a later date.
