Helen E. Dowling

MADISON/STOUGHTON -- Helen Elizabeth (Kellogg) Garrett Dowling, Age 85, passed away on Monday March 29, 2010 at   Stoughton   Hospital .    Helen was born on March 20, 1925 in   Antigo, WI , the daughter of Horace and Anna May (Rush) Kellogg.  They moved to   Poynette , WI   where they lived on the Poynette Game Farm.  She graduated from   Poynette High School , and went on to attend Madison Business College where she obtained a degree in Business.  She was a long time resident of Madison and member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  She loved camping, UW football and Hockey games and attending her grandchildren sporting, musical events and later in live enjoyed attending events with the ""Red Hat"" ladies,   She was married to   L. James Dowling   on   December 4 , 1971, and is survived by her sister Virginia Fuhs and brother Richard (Joan) Kellogg, her daughter, Susan (Ross) Elsing of Stoughton and two sons, Mark Garrett of   Albany   and   Thomas Garrett   of Madison, a Step-daughter, Mary Ann Dowling of Las Vegas, and three step-sons, James (Denise) Dowling of Stevens Point, George (Jane) Dowling of Lena and John (Karen) Dowling of Madison.  She also has seven grandchildren, William (Melissa) Elsing, Jason (Kathryn) Elsing, Lucas Elsing, Matthew Elsing, Shawn Garrett, Kenneth (Joy) Foust and Kara (Eric) Cymbalak and five step-grandchildren Elizabeth, Jennifer,   William , Brett and Timothy and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, John A. Garrett in 1970, second husband,   L. James Dowling , a son Timothy Garrett, step-son   Robert Dowling   and her sister Jane Dobney.  She was well known by all who loved her for her quick wit, sense of humor and a remarkable ability to find the best side of everyone she came across.  She kept close with her family and especially enjoyed watching her many grandchildren grow up, and celebrating their accomplishments. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME,   3610 Speedway Road . A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM.  Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
