Waterloo - Helen Ruth Regan, age 93, died on February 27, 2012 while at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, WI.
Helen was born on September 30, 1918 in Ashland, WI, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Mitchell. She married Harry Regan in November of 1948 in Illinois.
Helen graduated as the Valedictorian of St. Anthony DePadua High School and later worked for the U. S. Government in the Great Lakes Indian Agency. She worked in various cities in Wisconsin, Chicago and Washington D.C. prior to moving to Sun Prairie in 1962 and then later to Waterloo.
Helen was a true adventurer who loved to travel. While raising 5 children she managed to master the arts of sewing, upholstering, refinishing, caning and gardening among many other skills. She loved to read and especially enjoyed playing SkipBo and Dominos, and doing crossword puzzles. On her 85th birthday she learned to snorkel in Hawaii. Helen was the embodiment of love and light, ready with a smile and a hug for anyone and everyone in her long and precious life.
She is survived by 5 children, Eileen Regan of Bailey, CO, James Regan of Ft. Collins, CO, Kevin (Beth) Regan of Waterloo, Anthony Regan of Ft. Collins and Avita Regan of Madison; three grandchildren, Abigail, Michael and Mitchell Regan and two sisters, Theresa Stroshane of Ashland and Ruth (Bob) Sukopp of Racine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry on May 9, 1997 and several brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.
Memorial Services will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie WI on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Friday from Noon 12:00 PM until the time of service. Inurnment of Helen's remains will take place at a later date at Sun Prairie Memorial Gardens.
