MADISON
Herbert P. Jordan, 89, of Madison, WI passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
Herb was born on January 31, 1928 in Prairie du Chien, WI, son of the late Reverend Franklin and Leona (Beidelman) Jordan.
After graduating from Hartford High School, Herb served in the United States Army. He then graduated from North Central College (IL) where he received a BS degree in engineering. He moved to Madison in 1953 and went to work for WKOW-TV, where he helped to get the first TV station on air in Madison. He also worked for WTKM in Hartford, WISC-TV and WHA-TV, where he retired in 1990.
Herb loved to travel and was an avid amateur photographer. His favorite hobby was as an amateur radio operator, using call sign W9LA. He was especially proud of the fact that he had made contact with amateur radio operators from every country in the world. He was a member throughout the years of several various groups including AARL, FLARC, MDXC, INDXA, Rag Chewers Club and NCDXF. He earned various awards from these clubs in regards to his aficionado for amateur radio broadcasting.
Herb will be remembered for his kindness, friendship, and great memories. He was fun to be around and will be dearly missed.
Herb is survived by his niece, Jane Wiese of TX; cousins Dwayne (Ben) Beidelman of MN, and Sally (Graf) Beidelman of IL.
Herb was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and sister.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison. A visitation will begin at 9:30 am. A light luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.
