Madison -- Hilda Partio died on Thursday, February 5, 2009, in her home in Fitchburg, Wisconsin surrounded by her family. Hilda was born on July 5, 1917, in Highway Location near Calumet, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Waarala. She attended the local schools. In July 1937, she married Arvid Pyorala. Arvid and Hilda first lived in the Detroit area and then moved to Calumet where they owned and operated a dairy farm, raised four children and were active members of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet. They enjoyed a few years of retirement together in Lake Worth, Florida, before Arvid died in 1970. Hilda married Vilho Partio in 1972. Hilda and Vilho were active members of St. Andrew's Lutheran church, the Finnish American Society, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Finland. After Vilho's death in 1997. Hilda moved to Fitchburg where she was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Madison area Finnish American Society and the Fitchburg Senior Center. Hilda is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Leonard) Danielsen of Fitchburg and Marilyn (James) Murphy of Cornell, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Kathy Pyorala of Vermont; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Hilda was preceded in death by her daughter, Carole Hanninen; son, Weldon Pyorala; as well as her parents; husbands; three sisters; and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2009 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, with a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment and a graveside service will be at a later date at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet, Michigan. The family would like to thank the Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living staff and HospiceCare for the wonderful care that Hilda received.
