McFarland / New Orleans - Houston H. Glover, age 88, passed away at Oakwood Village West in Madison, WI on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. He was born in Norfield, Mississippi on January 2, 1924, a son of John L. and Lola (Allen) Glover. Houston was united in marriage to Eleanor Dykema in McComb, MS on November 6, 1945. He was a man of service; dedicated to his country and his church. Houston served his country in the Army during WWII in India as a member of the 745th Railway Battalion. Following his discharge and until his retirement, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad in New Orleans. Houston also served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Kenner, LA. Most important to Houston was always his wife and family. He will be remembered for his witty comments and his ability to make others smile. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, John (Karyn); and grandson, Geoffrey. He was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Aubrey; and a nephew, Ronnie Glover. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Oakwood Village West Resurrection Chapel, 6025 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, WI with Pastor Gwen Brandfass officiating. Burial and military rites will take place at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, Mississippi at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Special thanks to all the family members and friends at First Baptist, Kenner who helped in so many ways throughout the years, and to the staff at Oakwood Village West for their support and care.
