McFarland -- Howard Elmer Egner, age 85, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at his home in McFarland. He was born in the town of Dunn on December 13, 1922, a son of Ole and Mabel (Krogfoss) Egner. He served his country in the Army during WWII with an honorable discharge in 1946. He made his career driving semi truck for the Conservation Department, McFarland Lumber Yard, McFarland Badger Petroleum, JJ Fitzpatrick and Bulk Transport. His Home Talent catching debut began at the age of 15. He continued his love of home talent baseball and received the honor of throwing out the first pitch on Fathers Day 2008 at the age of 85. He married Jeanette Kearney on June 28, 1953. Together they had 8 children. Howard loved watching sports, visits to the McFarland Tavern, feeding his birds and squirrels and his 2 dogs, Angel and Lucy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette; 7 children, Daniel Egner of Madison, Nancye (Robert) Trapino of Georgia, Barb (Tom) Sawyer of McFarland, Shirley (Amy) Egner of Plover, Anne (friend Penny) Buol of Barneveld, Mark Egner of McFarland, Diane Egner of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Tera Egner, Matt (Darci) Dunston, Chris (Angie ) Trapino, AJ (Melissa) Trapino, Alli (Andy) Krohn, Kyle (Carleigh) Sawyer, Kaitlyn Buol, Brad Trapino, Heather Buol, Hannah Egner, and Jordan Egner-Schnitzler; 10 great grand children, Ethan, Maya, Chloe, Leo, Cole, Samuel, Layla, Nicholas, Taylor & Brayden; a sister, Elizabeth McConnell; and a sister in law, JoAnn (Bud) Bernhagen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Willard; sister in law Lorraine, brother in law Edwin, father and mother in law Art & Helen Zaemisch; son Keith; and grand daughter Amy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 11:00 am at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland with Chaplain Steven Zwettler officiating. Burial and Military Rites by the Madison Area Firing Squad will follow at Upper McFarland Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a reception at the American Legion Hall in McFarland. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, August 3^rd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, with a Pass and Review by the McFarland American Legion at 6:00pm. The family will greet friends again at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
