Howard Nelson

Stoughton- Howard O. Nelson, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Stoughton on May 23, 1932, the son of Roy and Nora Nelson.  Howard graduated from Edgerton High School.  He enlisted in the US Military and served his country honorably.  On January 18, 1969 Howard married Betty Schwersinske.  Together they enjoyed their Friday date nights and Sunday adventures with the family.  Howard retired from Western Electric after 30 years.  He was a proud Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Howard enjoyed watching stock car racing and the Green Bay Packers, tractors, and taking care of his lawn.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty; daughter, Sherry Johnson; son, Kevin “Pony” Nelson; granddaughter, Brook (Pat) McGettigan; great granddaughter, Una; sister, Donna (Roger) Strandlie; and many nieces and nephews.  Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy (Jeanette) Nelson; and sister, JoAnn Grefsheim.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Highway B, Stoughton, with Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating.  Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following.  Burial, with Military Honors, will take place in Lutheran Cemetery South.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services at church.  Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Agrace HospiceCare Inc.
