MADISON -- Howell I. Lane, age 89, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Oakwood Village East in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on May 15, 1921 in Springwater, Wisconsin, the son of Hugh and Jane (Hughes) Lane. On June 16, 1945 he was united in marriage with Myrtle E. Olson. Howell and Myrtle farmed in Waupaca and Berlin. In 1968 they purchased and operated a feed mill in Berlin. In 1972 they purchased a feed mill/grain elevator in Dale, Wisconsin, which they operated until their retirement in 1993. In 2000 they moved from their home in Appleton to Oakwood Village East and became members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. Myrtle passed away in December 2003.
Their survivors include two daughters, Janice (Walter) Alf of Colgate, and Kathleen (Larry) Dickerson of Sun Prairie; three grandchildren, Stefanie (Tom) Czoschke of Plainfield, Ill., Michele (John) Stiemke of Jackson, and Jason (Lisa) Alf of Jackson; six great grandchildren, Katelyn and Tyler Czoschke, Paige and Nicole Stiemke, Branden and Elijah Alf. Howell was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Jane Lane, a sister, Elizabeth Petersen, and a brother, Hugh ""Greg"" Lane.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2010 at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, 5555 Tancho Drive, Madison. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2010, at the HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL, 3131 N. Richmond Street, Appleton. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. The Rev. Leon Knitt will officiate.
