Madison - Ila May Mohs, age 83, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born on May 20, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of August and Verona Abe.
Ila May graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she graduated with a degree in Interior Design. While at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she was a member of Alpha-Gamma-Delta Sorority. After her graduation, Ila May was employed by Chapman's Department Store in Milwaukee as an Interior Designer.
Ila May married husband Carl Mohs in 1952, beginning what would become 59 years of marriage. Following Carl's graduation from Marquette Dental School in 1953, they traveled to England with the U.S. Air Force, where they lived until 1955. After moving back to Madison, Ila May worked for Manchester's Department Store.
Ila May dedicated her life to nurturing her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an active volunteer within their school classrooms and within Midvale Lutheran Church, where she was a member since 1956. Ila May also served as a member of P.E.O.. She enjoyed playing bridge with her neighborhood friends for many years, as well as classes in painting during her winter stays in Florida.
Ila May is survived by her husband, Carl Mohs; daughter, Laurel Mohs; son, Charles Mohs; grandchildren, Lucas, Michael and Nina Mohs; daughter-in-law, Beatriz Bueno; son-in-law, Lex Dutch and grand-dog, Porter, as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lucille Herte of West Bend.
Funeral services will be held at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Boulevard., Madison, on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Loewenhagen officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held at church on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
