Inaam Najem, age 74, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Center on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. Born April 7, 1935, in Ain Anoub, Lebanon, she was the daughter of Shaheen and Amria Hemaidan. She was the second oldest of 14 children. She left home at an early age to continue her education in Jordan and Syria where she obtained a nursing degree. After working in Saudi Arabia, she moved to Wausau to become a nurse anesthetist. There, she met and married her husband, Dr. Robert E. Najem and moved to Madison to raise their family. Inaam continued her nursing career at the UW Hospital until she retired in 1994. Inaam was very active in both local and global politics and causes. Her elegance and grace will be dearly missed by her surviving children, Amaria (Pat O'Leary), Sumi (Matt Lombardino), John ( Lynn) and Anni (David Goldberg); and her seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her parents; and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at RESURRECTION CHAPEL, OAKWOOD VILLAGE WEST, 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison. The Rev. Gwen Brandfass will be presiding. There will be visitation for family and friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or to the charity of your choice.
