Irene Carter

MADISON- Irene C. Carter, age 88, of Madison passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on July 30, 1928 in Chicago, the youngest daughter of Marion and Katherine (Chorzepa) Smotrys. She married Robert J. Carter on September 14, 1952 in Chicago, Ill.

Irene was employed by the former Madison General Hospital for many years. She was a faithful volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for over 20 years. Her faith was very important to her and she was devoted to her family especially her grandchildren. Irene was independent and hard working in all aspects of life until the end.

Irene is survived by her children, Karen (Kurt) Jaehnig, David (Sandy) Carter, Brian (Phyllis) Carter and Pamela (Kirk) Krueger. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Raykovich, Greg Jaehnig, Sarah Carter, Chris Carter, Nicole Krueger and Kyle Krueger. She is further survived by her sister, Estelle Sigur and brother, Walter (Dorothy) Smotrys and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert and two sisters, Helen Lubas and Jean Cieszykowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare.
