Irving T. Myklejord

August 1, 1920 — May 21, 2010

Stoughton- Irving T. Myklejord, age 89, died on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg.  He was born on August 1, 1920, the son of Thomas and Estella (Johnson) Myklejord.  Irv graduated from Stoughton High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in North Africa and Italy.  Irv was awarded the bronze star and purple heart.  He was discharged in 1945.  Irv worked as a painter and then for Highway Trailers for 20 years, retiring in 1983.  He enjoyed woodcarving, hunting, Western and Native American culture and was a great story teller.  Irv was a life member of Western Koshkonong Lutheran.  He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.  Irv was a very kind and gentle man.  He is survived by his daughter, Kenlyn (Ron) Thronson; grandchildren, Trudy (Tom) Spike and Tim (Mary) Thronson; four great grandsons, Ben, Leif, Jon and Ty; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Harriet; second wife, Myra; two sisters, Florence Pettersen and Ruby Lunde; and brother, Raymond.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Western Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 2633 Church Street, Cottage Grove, with Rev. Theodore Gullixson officiating.  Burial, with full Military Honors, will follow in Western Koshkonong Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Koshkonong Lutheran Church or to HospiceCare Inc.  A special thank you to Irv's nurse Jeri, and to the staff of HospiceCare.
