Wersland, Iver
Stoughton- Iver E. Wersland, age 79, passed away at Meriter Hospital in Madison on Monday, August 29, 2011. He was born in Stoughton on January 15, 1932, a son of Iver and Mabel (Nelson) Wersland. He served his country in the Navy for 4 years, followed by 3 years in the Air National Guard. On July 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Muriel Fosdal. Iver was an avid sportsman for many years. He loved the outdoors and being 'uppa' North. He enjoyed the simple things in life, music, dancing, UW Hockey, Cross country skiing, dogs, volunteering, and handing out tootsie pops to everyone he ever met. Iver had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller. He is survived by 4 children, Bret (Heidi), Jill Bilhorn (John), Erica Sundby (John), and Timm (Wanda); brother, Robert (Margaret); grandchildren, Bryce Sime, Jared Bilhorn, Cierra and Tyler Wersland, Paul and Jack Sundby, and Brigitte Wersland; Bruce and Kim Sime, Kelly, Karl, Wendy and Ronnie; many nieces, nephews cousins and aunts. He is further survived by a huge network of friends, SHS athletes, Home Talent Ball players, R Country Gals, and Stoughton Norwegian Dancers, who helped to keep his youthful spirit alive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Steven. A Celebration of Iver's life will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 starting at 1:00 pm at the VFW Post # 328, 200 Veterans Blvd, Stoughton. Thank you to everyone at Stoughton Hospital and EMS, Meriter, WI Heart, Associated Physicians, and all who cared for him over the years. Memorials may be made to Stoughton Norwegian Dancers, Stoughton Sports Booster Club or a charity of your choice.
