MADISON- J. Peter Hughes passed away peacefully on December 23, 2013. Peter was born on January 11, 1924.
He was a US Navy fighter pilot during WWII. After returning from the war, Peter graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. Peter had a long career in international business which included heading international divisions of Ekco Housewares Company and the Maytag Corporation. Peter was a dedicated painter, an avid sailor and a longtime member of the Chicago Yacht Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; son, John Hughes; daughter, Anne (Stanley Livingston) Hughes and grandchildren Kelsey and Sam Livingston.
An Evensong service dedicated to Peter will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, Illinois on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. A reception at 3:30 pm will precede this Evensong service. In addition, a concert in celebration of Peter's life will be held at Capitol Lakes Retirement Center, 333 W Main St. in Madison WI on January 11 at 2 PM. January 11th would have been Peter's 90th birthday. Memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to Episcopal charities and Community Services, 65 E Huron St. Chicago, IL 60611.
