Jack H. Maxfield

Madison -- Jack H. Maxfield, age 95, died on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Indianapolis Heart Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on July 1, 1915 in Plover, Wisconsin, the son of Julian F. and Jennie (Hardacker) Maxfield. On August 15, 1937, he married Barbara Mason of Whitehall, Wisconsin, who preceded him in death on February 12, 1968. He married Norma Scherer on November 26, 1971. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2001. Jack graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison in 1938. In the years from 1938 to 1948, he worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation at Wisconsin Rapids; J. S. Hartt, Consulting Engineer, on an interstate power project in Dubuque, Iowa; the Illinois Division of Waterways at Springfield; and Crawford, Murphy, and Tilley Consulting Engineers of Springfield, Illinois. From 1948 until retirement in 1981, he worked for the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District as the construction engineer. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. He was a past president of the Madison Technical Club and the Southwest Chapter of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers; he is a member of Middleton Ionic Lodge #180 F. & A.M.; Madison Scottish Rite Bodies; Zor Shrine; Shrine Directors staff; Madison Shrine Club; Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 126; and Acacia Fraternity. He is survived by his three children, Jack M. (Mona) Maxfield of Saratoga, California, Fredric C. (Kathy) Maxfield of North Liberty, Iowa; Mary (Dean) Roney of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Norma's two children and grandchildren. Burial will be at the Gardens of Eternal Peace Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Park with family members in attendance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shrine Children's Hospitals or to the Madison 32 degree Masonic Learning Center.
