Madison -- Jack E. Nissenbaum -- age 88 passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at University Hospital.  He was born on November 27, 1920, the son of Abraham and Anna (Noro) Nissenbaum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.   Jack served in the United States Army, as a military police officer and infantryman.  He was stationed in Europe and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, in the European Theatre of operation during WWII. Jack received an honorable discharge from the military service as a sergeant in 1945.   In October of 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Irene.  Together they raised two children and many foster children.  She preceded Jack in death in September of 1988.  On June 14, 1991 Jack married his second wife, Debra at St. Thomas Aquinas in Madison. For over 30 years, Jack was employed as a branch manager for Snap-On Tools. He also worked for Residence Inn, UW-Madison, Burger King and for TSA-Dane County Airport.  In Jack's younger years, he enjoyed raising horses on the farm and traveling.  He also was an avid reader of current events, wonderful cook and enjoyed camping and the outdoors.   Jack is survived by his wife of 18 years; Debra Nissenbaum of Madison, a son; Michael (Kathryn) Nissenbaum of Powell, Ohio and a daughter, two granddaughters; Jennifer and Kelly Nissenbaum, a sister; Betty Hackbarth of Wauwatosa, WI and foster children too numerous to mention.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Irene Nissenbaum.   A memorial gathering will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 5 to 7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison, on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 am with Monsignor Don Heiar presiding.  Graveside services with military honors will be held at Resurrection Cemetery following the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Jack to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 3520 Lake Ave Suite 202, Wilmette, IL 60091-1064, Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Rd., Madison, WI 53718-6941 or to the Salvation Army of Dane County, 630 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI 53703.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the UW-Hospital Hematology and Oncology Department, Dr. Julie Chang and her staff and Dr. Ballentyne for all the personal attention, love and care given to Jack and our family.
