Jack Thomas

February 25, 1938 — November 22, 2016

Cottage Grove - Jackie Douglas Thomas, age 78, passed away on November 22, 2016, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Corrine Thomas, who shared 48 years together. Those who knew Jack described him as positive, fun-loving, and kind.

He grew up in Viola, WI and attended Viola High School. He was one of seven children born into a close family. The Thomas Family Christmases are remembered as incredibly joyful, with Jack annually playing Santa.

Jack worked in the paint industry for 57 years, and owned his own store called Jack's Paint and Paper for 10 years. He was considered the best "color man" in the Madison area with his extensive knowledge of color mixology. He adored this industry because of his love for people and sales.

Additionally, Jack was very involved in the community. He did everything from teaching Sunday School, serving as a cub scout leader, to participating with the Lions Club. He utilized his love of music and guitar to serve as well. He and friend Jim Buros regularly played at nursing homes, and later his band The Thomas Tidbits performed at community events. Jack was known for his rendition of the "Laughing Song", which he even sang during his time in Agrace Hospice Care.

Even more than music, Jack loved playing with his grandchildren. Whether it was eating doughnuts, letting his granddaughters dress him in barrettes, or sticking money under the bathroom door, he adored simply spending time with them.

The family of Jack would like to offer their sincere thanks to the staff of Agrace Hospice Care, Heartland Home Hospice, the UW Dialysis Clinic, their close friend Mel Johnson, and nurse practitioner Teresa Cramer-McDonald. Jack received exceptional love and care during the last few years of his life.

Lastly, Corrine's children would like to extend their gratitude to their mother for marrying such a wonderful man, father, and role model.

He is survived by his wife Corrine, children Mary, Don, Jeff, and Dee Dee, their spouses, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five siblings. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ona and Orlan Thomas, and sister Janis.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at McFarland Lutheran Church on 5529 Marsh Road in McFarland, WI. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to the time of the service.
