Jacob ""Jack"" O. Fritz

Sun Prairie-Jacob ""Jack"" Fritz, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Jack was born in LaCrosse, the son of Otto and Sabina Fritz. He graduated from LaCrosse High School. He worked at Camp McCoy until he was inducted into the Army at age 18 to serve in WWII. He was part of a fast moving combat unit. He shared his wartime experiences yearly with the children at Eastside Elementary School. Jack was interviewed to document his wartime experiences. The DVD is in the archives of the Library of Congress. After the war, Jack graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in marketing. He joined Wisconsin Power and Light (now Alliant Energy) from where he retired after 37 years. In Madison, he met his wife Sally and after their marriage they moved to Sun Prairie. Jack strongly believed in community service. He was a member of Jaycees and was a Rotarian for over 40 years. He was well known for making Mickey Mouse pancakes for the children on Rotary Pancake Day. He was also a member of MENSA and Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. Jack had many talents. He wrote a book of family history and researched genealogy, included photos and stories. He loved nature, birds and art. He was a very good artist and antique furniture restorer. He loved to refinish furniture for his wife and daughters, always attaching a little note to the item restored. He always had a project underway. He was a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed by his family. Survivors are his wife Sally, daughters Susan, Nancy (Faiz) Alkawass and Catherine (Tom) Simmons; and granddaughter Tori Simmons. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers and beloved Aunt Freda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie. with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Family and friends may call at Cress Funeral Home, Sun Prairie on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Brookside, WI . Memorials may be made to HospiceCare or Sacred Hearts Catholic Church.
