Waunakee-Jacob Joseph ""Joe"" Kessenich, age 93, died on Monday April 26, 2010 at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center. Joe was born on Dec 17, 1916 in Westport to Jacob and Adeline (Ripp) Kessenich He entered the US Army on July 24, 1941 and was discharge on June 6, 1945, serving as a Staff Sergeant in Co 1341st Engineering. He was also a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He married the former Marie Diederich on April 27, 1946. He began work as a carpenter and than Joe and Marie operated Kessenich's Tavern from 1955 to 1960. He than returned to carpentry with Union Local 314. Joe enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, growing roses, tulips, and geraniums. He especially liked being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Marie, two sons Steve (Eileen) and Ken (Sonny). Grandchildren Jamie (Bob) Kessenich and Kimberly (Steve) Emerson, Josh ( Tara) Kessenich and Nikki (Tyson) Roessler. Great-grandchildren; Samantha, Jordan, Mackenzie, Kaylie, Jacob, Lexi and Leiland;a sister, Adie (Grant) Corcoran. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Sat. May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church 209 South St. in Waunakee. Msgr James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home on Fri. April 30, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Sat. from 10:00a.m until the time of services.
