Jakov Uremovic, age 86, died peacefully holding his wife's hand early Christmas morning at home, Monday, December 25, 2017. He was born October 10, 1931 in Baljevac, Croatia, son of Petar and Milka (Kokotovic) Uremovic.
As a young man, Jakov served in the Yugoslav Navy and later learned his trade as a carpenter. At the age of 25, he, with his cousin Milan Uremovic, immigrated to Canada. He married Otilija (Marjanovic) Uremovic in West Allis, Wisconsin on August... 15, 1964 and began a family in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The family moved to Chicago in 1973 where Jakov worked as a janitor. In the mid-1980's, he became ill with a form of multiple sclerosis and began a slow physical decline. In 2002, he and his wife moved to Sun Prairie, WI. Jakov was a kind, gentle man that never indulged in self-pity; appreciating his family most. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Otilija (Marjanovic) Uremovic; his daughter Jackie (Peter) Anderson of Sun Prairie, WI and his son Peter (Jamie) Uremovic of Carol Stream, IL; his grandchildren Alan Jakov (A.J.) and Nicholas Anderson, Jessica, Kaya, and Mia Uremovic; his sister Jelena (Uremovic) Kotarski and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am and a mass of Christian burial at 11:00am at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 2823 South Princeton, Chicago, IL. on Friday, December 29, 2017 with Father Stipe Renic presiding. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1400 W. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL. Due to weather conditions, in lieu of flowers please consider a charitable donation to a local hospice agency.
