James Johnson

March 31, 1933 — February 20, 2014

MADISON - James A. Johnson, aged 80, passed away on February 20, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on March 31, 1933, to the late Martin and Alice Johnson of Edgerton.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Johanna, his daughter Jill (Robert) Joles of Chippewa Falls, two grandchildren; Dr. Thomas (Jessica) Joles and Sarah (Dr. Tim) Westover and 5 great grandchildren: John Robert, Addie Mae and Thomas James Joles, and Maya Brooke and Christian Daniel Westover. He is also survived by his siblings; Maxine (the late Clifford) Price of Edgerton, Pepper (Kathy) Johnson of Edgerton, Sally (Jim O'Donnell) Johnson of Madison and Jeff Johnson of Florida as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from Edgerton High School in 1951. He was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean conflict as a Master Sargent. He was involved in heavy combat and was awarded a Purple Heart. Jim went to school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northwestern University, where he graduated with a double major in Business and Civil Engineering. He enjoyed a successful career working primarily in Chicago and New York, as well as Hawaii and Colombia.
Jim and Johanna met in New York City and were married there on February 27, 1971. They both enjoyed traveling, good restaurants, museums, and classical music. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packer and Badger fan. Whilst traveling and living elsewhere Jim and Johanna frequently came to Wisconsin to visit, before eventually moving to Madison in 1975. Their visits would bring the whole family together to enjoy good food and good times. Jim had many interesting stories to tell and a great sense of humor, which brought fun and laughter to his family.
A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. Memorial donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, Wisconsin 53711 or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care.
