James K. Day, age 72, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Â He was born in Junction City, Kansas on August 28, 1938, a son of the late Karl and Pearl (Olson) Day. Â On October 5, 1963, Jim was united in marriage to Patsy Knight in Kansas City, Missouri. Â He served his country in the Navy as a commissioned officer for 10 years during the Vietnam Conflict, earning a Bronze Star and a Defense Service Medal, among other commendations. Â Jim's family was his focus. Â He also had a great love for sports. Â He enjoyed reading and traveling, and was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Stoughton American Legion Post #59 Honor Guard. Â He is survived by his wife, Patsy; 2 daughters, Susan (Eric) Hoverson and Jennifer (Tom) Nelson; a son, Jerry Day; 2 grandchildren, Breanna and Brandon Robinson; and a sister, Margie Oliver. Â He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; and a sister, Phyllis. Â A memorial service, preceded by a Pass and Review, and followed by Military Rites will be held on Saturday January 22, 2010 at 11:30 am at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with the Rev. Clyde Cross officiating. Â The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Â Special thanks to the many friends who gave Jim and the family their support during his illness, and to the staff of St. Mary's Hospital for their care.
