James Frederick, age 84, died peacefully at home on May 20, 2011 in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Jim grew up on the Frederick Farm in Middleton, WI which is now part of the Pheasant Branch Conservancy; the farm was homesteaded in the late 1800's by his grandfather Hubert Vasen. Jim and his brothers sold the land to Dane County for the conservancy in 1994.
After high school Jim served with the US Army in Japan as part of the occupying force during 1946 and 1947. During his career Jim worked with orchids for more than 40 years, he started with Schubert's on Lake Mendota while still in high school and then continued with Orchids by the Ackers until his retirement in 1987. Jim was an avid golfer, bowler and card player. In later years Jim greatly enjoyed spending his winters in Arizona, driving for Ballweg's Chevrolet and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim had many friends and will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris, and his children, Maureen (Jerry) Minnick, La Vonne (Marv) Theis, Keith (Lori) Frederick, Karen (Harvey) Rohde and Kendall (Jane) Frederick; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Vern Frederick of Middleton and Bob Frederick of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Katherine (Vasen) Frederick.
There will be a Memorial Mass on Sat. June 18, 2011 at 11:00 a. m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2015 Parmenter St. Middleton with Msgr. Douglas Dushack presiding. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a. m. until the time of service at the church.
