James Hofer

April 16, 1949 — September 13, 2013

James Leslie Hofer, age 64, died peacefully in the gardens of Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, Wisconsin on September 13, 2013. Jim was the first child of the late Leslie J. And Bertha B. Hofer. Born April 16, 1949 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Jim lived in Pittsville, Wisconsin until attending college at UW-Stevens Point where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. His first teaching position was in Gay's Mills, Wisconsin. Two years later, he returned to UW-Stout and earned a Master's Degree in counseling. He was employed at Amery as a counselor and eventually retired as a high school counselor from the Becker, Minnesota school district in 2005. He lived in rural Luck, Wisconsin after retirement enjoying every aspect of nature's beauty in its abundance, often only evident to him, many of the hours spent paddling one of his canoes or kayaks.

His survivors include his son, Dan (Heather), three grandchildren, Jonus, Keenun and Lilliun, all of Little Falls, MN and his daughter, Laura Hofer (Mark Hiner) of Madison, WI. In addition he is survived by brother, Lee (Sally) Hofer, MD, of Eau Claire, and niece, Andrea DeRosa (David) of Los Angeles, nephew, Adam Hofer, MD of Madison, and favorite nephew, Andy Hofer of Blaine, Minnesota.

Jim was blessed with an overabundance of kindness and compassion and was friend to many.

A memorial service will be held at North Wood County Park,
near Arpin, Wisconsin on October 12, 2013, beginning at 12 pm. At Jim's request, a picnic celebration will be held.
