McFarland- James F. Johnson, age 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 14, 2009 at his home. He was born in Madison on July 18, 1951, the son of John and Margaret (Stanschus) Johnson. J.J. enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a helicopter support member and a gun chief on a Huey. He flew 1000 hours of combat flight. J.J. was a member of the 161st support group. He received 13 air medals which included the Good Conduct Medal, both Vietnamese Medals, a Bronze Star, Armed Forces Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star. J.J. was employed as a welder for 38 years. He was a member of the American Legion for 24 years, the C.C. Riders (formerly Four Lakes Riders) for four years, and the local Hog chapter for 14 years. J.J. was active with the McFarland Volunteer Fire Department for many years. On February 14, 2009 he married Donna Goldbin. J.J. is survived by his wife, Donna; grandson, Chace; his mother, Margaret; two brothers, John (Linda) and Pat Johnson; sister, Annamarie Johnson; sister-in-law, Kay Johnson; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John; son, Chessie; and brother, Mike. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday. Relatives and friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following the services at the McFarland American Legion Edwards-Foye Post 534 where full Military Honors will take place. A very special thank you to the Doctors and staff at the West Side Dean Clinic Oncology Department, Home Health United, and HospiceCare Inc. Christopher Manley said, ""There is only one success, to be able to spend your life in your own way."" This is how J.J. lived his life.
