James Walter Koch, age 80, of Waunakee died on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Middleton Village. He was born in Waunakee on August 8, 1930 to Frank and Elizabeth (Schneider) Koch. Jim was a lifelong Waunakee resident and graduated from Waunakee High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1952. He married Dorothy Brown on November 12, 1955 in Waunakee and worked in the printing business at Webcrafters, Inc. for 42 years until his retirement in 1994.
Jim was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Waunakee Legion Post #360. He sang in the church choir and prayed the rosary at the nursing home. He was also an honorary fireman, having served on the Waunakee Fire Dept. for 11 years. Jim enjoyed baseball, playing cards and time spent with family.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; six sons, Gary of Madison, Larry (Marie) of Madison, Mark (Bob Manion) of Oregon, Dan (Lori) of Lakeville, Minn., Mike of Madison and Dennis of Waunakee; four grandchildren, Keith, Danielle, Ashley and Lindsey; his sister, Barbara (Harold) Carlson of Sauk City; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mercedes, Robert, Delores, Elizabeth, and Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at St. John's Catholic Church, 209 South Street in Waunakee. The Reverend Lance Schneider will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to HospiceCare or St. John's Building Fund. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Monsignor James Gunn, Monsignor Charles Schluter, Judy Stolper, Middleton Village, and the HospiceCare staff.
