James Jim' William Norland, age 54, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at University Hospital in Madison. Â He was born in Stoughton on April 8, 1955, the son of James C. and Lois (Halverson) Norland. Â He was the only brother, the middle child, to four sisters. Â On March 20, 1999, he was united in marriage to Ellie Quamme. Â Jim worked as a Boilermaker, a member of local #107. Â He enjoyed his work, especially his camaraderie with other Boilermakers. Â Jim enjoyed the outdoors immensely, hunting, fishing with his grandsons, and playing horseshoes. Â He liked to read and discuss politics. Â He was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed throwing the football with his son. Â He enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing and boating. Â He loved to travel, especially to the Gulf of Mexico. Â Jim loved to play, and would say ""Remember, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."" Â He will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humor, his laugh, his patience and his child-like love of life. Â Jim's close knit family was very important to him, and he always liked to have a full house. Â Papa Jim was greatly loved by his grandchildren. Â He is survived by his wife, Ellie; son, Daniel (Misty); step-son, Joe (Cristin); step-daughters, Amy (Dan) and Sarah; 6 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Peg (Buddy), Patti (Rod), Kristin (Frank) and Mikin; and by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Â Jim was preceded in death by his father, James C. Norland; his mother, Lois Norland; and all of his grandparents. Â A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 12:30 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton with the Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating.
