James 'Jim' W. Norland

April 8, 1955 — December 14, 2009

James Jim' William Norland, age 54, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at University Hospital in Madison.   He was born in Stoughton on April 8, 1955, the son of James C. and Lois (Halverson) Norland.   He was the only brother, the middle child, to four sisters.   On March 20, 1999, he was united in marriage to Ellie Quamme.   Jim worked as a Boilermaker, a member of local #107.   He enjoyed his work, especially his camaraderie with other Boilermakers.   Jim enjoyed the outdoors immensely, hunting, fishing with his grandsons, and playing horseshoes.   He liked to read and discuss politics.   He was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed throwing the football with his son.   He enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing and boating.   He loved to travel, especially to the Gulf of Mexico.   Jim loved to play, and would say ""Remember, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.""   He will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humor, his laugh, his patience and his child-like love of life.   Jim's close knit family was very important to him, and he always liked to have a full house.   Papa Jim was greatly loved by his grandchildren.   He is survived by his wife, Ellie; son, Daniel (Misty); step-son, Joe (Cristin); step-daughters, Amy (Dan) and Sarah; 6 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Peg (Buddy), Patti (Rod), Kristin (Frank) and Mikin; and by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.   Jim was preceded in death by his father, James C. Norland; his mother, Lois Norland; and all of his grandparents.   A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 12:30 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton with the Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating.   The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.   Special thanks to the T.L.C. and Burn Unit Staff at University Hospital.
