James A. Rogers

DeForest- James ""Jim"" A. Rogers, Sr, age 74, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at HospiceCare surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was born on June 24, 1936 in Viroqua, WI, the son of Franklin and Rena (Smith) Rogers. On October 27, 1956 he was united in marriage with Shirley Kreger in Sun Prairie. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until her death in 2007. Jim was a longtime Sun Prairie resident before moving to DeForest in 2003. For 30 years he worked at Goodyear Tire, retiring in 1999.

Jim was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the North Bristol Sportsman Club, North American Fishing Club, North American Hunting Club, NRA, WI Gun Owners and the Second Amendment Foundation. He also found enjoyment in woodworking.

Jim is survived by his children Debra (Ken) Zickert of Cambridge, Donna (Steve) Sankbeil of Stoughton, Dianne (Steve) Grinde of Cottage Grove, James (fianc�e, Martha) Rogers, Jr. of Marshall and Denise (Ron) Kephart of Wyocena; grandchildren: Brian (fianc�e, Rose) Zickert, Kristine (Justin) Schutte, Joshua Sankbeil, Kevin Sankbeil, Jennifer (Ben) Vasquez, Christopher Grinde, Grant Rogers and Kelsey Rogers; sisters Lena (Cal) Wallace of Bell Center, WI, Doris (Danny) Muller of Carthage, IL and Edith Marie Schumate of Reidstown, WI; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 232 Windsor Street, Sun Prairie with Pastor Gregory Lyon officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, Sun Prairie from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. James Nosal. Pastor Gregory Lyon and Pastor Luke Werre of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church for their frequent visits, the staff of St. Mary's and HospiceCare, Inc.
