MADISON
James E. "Jim" Vandenberg, age 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Ingleside Manor, Mount Horeb. He was born in Kewaunee on June 9, 1936, the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Stoveken) Vandenberg.
Jim was a veteran having served with the U.S. AirForce; 4 years of active duty stationed in Greenland and Guam, and 6 years of service in the Reserves. He then spent 14 years as a Franciscan Missionary Brother in Eureka, MO. After leaving the order, he later met and married the love of his life, Pat, and worked as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital both in St. Louis and Madison. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, while also volunteering frequently for St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Multicultural Center.
Jim is survived by his wife Patricia; his two children Michelle Wallach and Michael Vandenberg; two very loving grandchildren, Noah and Samuel; his sisters: Teresa (Clem) Derenne, Rosie (Dick) Duescher, Rita Vandenberg, Angie (Lloyd) Paul, Helen (Robert) DeGrave, and Mercedes Vandenberg; one brother, Jerry Vandenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Loren, Allen (Betty), and Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Family will greet friends, at church, one hour prior to Mass. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Chapel. A reception will follow.
