Jane Barnes

SUN PRAIRIE- Jane Ann (Frye) Barnes, 62, of Sun Prairie passed away Aug. 31, 2020 after a courageous 2-year battle with breast cancer.

Jane was born on May 17, 1958 in Dodgeville, WI to Rev. Harvey and Anna Frye.  Being a “PK”, Jane spent her childhood in various communities in Montana and returned to Wisconsin as a teenager where she graduated in 1976 from Adams-Friendship High School.  Jane loved books, old Hollywood musicals, sports and history.  She was a proud graduate of Carthage College in Kenosha, WI earning a BA in History in 1980 and her MA in Library Science in 1981 from UW Madison.  She was united in marriage to Bruce Barnes on Aug. 2, 1986 at East Lemonweir Lutheran Church in rural Elroy, WI.  Jane served as the director of the Mauston, WI Public Library 1981-1987 and then worked faithfully for General Casualty Insurance/QBE for the past 33 years in Sun Prairie, WI.  Her greatest joy and accomplishment were her children, son Scott (at home) and daughter, Kimberly of Dubuque, IA.

Those left to cherish Jane’s memory are her husband, children, her cute pug Tiger, her brother Loren (Sharon) Frye of New Berlin, WI and her sister Julie (John) Busch, nephew, Benjamin Busch and niece, Brianna Busch all of Bellevue, IA; Sister-in-law Sandy (Gurdarshan) Gurm of Morrow, OH; nephew Jesse (Erin) Gurm their children Louie and Lena of Akron, OH, and niece Carly Gurm of Morrow, OH; Mother-in-law Jacquelyn Barnes of Sun Prairie, WI.  Jane cherished her many cousins and very special church friends and co-workers of QBE who supported her throughout this journey.  Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws Robert and Virginia “Ginny” Barnes.

Visitation will be from 3-4:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM.  Private burial will take place at Old York Church Cemetery in rural Blanchardville, near her parents.   The visitation is public, but we ask that only close friends and family attend the service in observance of the current pandemic mandate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make memorial gifts in Jane’s honor to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Dr. Sun Prairie, WI 53590 to support their music ministry or the ELCA World Hunger appeal at PO Box 1809 Merrifield, VA 22116.
