Jane Deyo

July 8, 1922 — July 26, 2017

Jane Morse Cushman Deyo, 95, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Jane was born July 8, 1922, in Newton, MA daughter of Rufus Packard Cushman II and Clara Morse Cushman. She married Henry Alden Deyo, September 8, 1945 in Bridgeport, CT.

Jane Deyo was a confirmed, native New Englander. Married life took her and her husband to New York, Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico. Music was an essential part of her life: majoring in music at Mount Holyoke College, teaching piano, creating and leading a Girl Scout Chorus in Dallas, playing church organ in Ruidoso, NM. Volunteering for church, Girl Scouts, PEO, Altrusa, she modeled a life of leadership and giving to every community she lived in. At The Aspen Tree in Ruidoso, NM, a book and gift shop she and Alden built, she excelled in serving customers and mentoring young people in a first job. She delighted in family, her children, siblings, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren; she made a point of spending time with them individually. Her characteristic optimism and love to spare, made her a magnet to all who knew her.

Jane is survived by her children: Janet Pugh (Thomas) and Richard Deyo (Lynda); grandchildren: Karen Pugh, Brian Pugh, Andrew Deyo, and Elizabeth Deyo; great-grandchildren: Carter Pugh, Nola Pugh, and Sylvia Deyo; and siblings: Mary Colwell, Rufus Cushman III, and Elizabeth Gumbart. Jane is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
