Jane Leventhal

January 25, 1912 — November 6, 2008

MADISON - Jane (Chick) Leventhal's spirit was set free on November 6, 2008. She was born on January 25, 1912 in New York City, the oldest daughter of Kathyrn and Henry Xiques. Her given name was Henrietta, shortened to Chick to capture her youth and spirit. She spent her childhood in Hollis, Queens and at the family's vacation home on Lake Lackawanna in New Jersey, where her extended family came together every summer to sail the boats her father had built. She married William Leventhal on August 17, 1948, and her passion centered on raising her children, Jill and John, in Scarsdale, New York. She had an active social life and loved gardening and golf, where she was club champion. She and Bill traveled all over the world and ultimately bought a second home in Florida, where they welcomed their children and grandchildren. After Bill's death in 1993, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin, to be near her daughter Jill and her husband Jamie, and their children, Jesse, Lanie, and Brenna. She was thrilled when her fourth grandchild, Jake, was born to her beloved son John and his wife Rosanne. She is survived by Jill and Jim Davis of Madison; John Leventhal and Rosanne Cash of New York City; her four grandchildren, Jesse, Lanie, Brenna, and Jake; two devoted friends of over fifty years, Sari Romaner Wills and Nancy Calderone; and two nieces, Diane Xiques and Janet Russell. She was preceded in death by her husband and all of her siblings, Evelyn, Adele, Buddy, and Viola. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Donna Fuelleman and Joyce Benjamin for the companionship and care they provided during Jane's time in Madison. A celebration of her life will be held at 12:30 on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made in Jane's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
