Verona

VERONA – Janet C. (Annen) Grosse, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Four Winds Manor in Verona. Janet was born in the town of Berry at the Annen farm homestead on September 14, 1931, to Peter and Mildred (Seefeldt) Annen. Janet was raised on six different farms in the Cross Plains and Madison area, finally on a farm which is now Orchard Ridge in Madison. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1949. After high school, she married Ronald Knipfer and they had two children, Richard D. Knipfer, and Kimberly K. (Knipfer) Shillingburg. Ronald was a career Navy veteran and they lived in seven different states over the next 23 years. Janet was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 385 in Verona. After Ronald’s navy career, they moved back to Madison. After the children married, she worked at several companies including Ray-O-Vac and finally at Graber’s in Middleton, taking care of the kitchen and vending area. She also worked at American Girl as a volunteer for many years, and worked the concession stands at the Dane County Coliseum for years.

She enjoyed playing cards at the senior centers, mostly euchre. She was happy to meet all the good people at the card games. She married her second husband, Richard Grosse, and they traveled to Nashville and Branson, just to name a few.

Janet is survived buy two brothers, Robert “Bob” Annen and Richard “Dick” Annen of Madison, and sister Joyce (Annen) Chamberlain of Casa Grande, AZ. She is also survived by 4 grandsons: Steve, Seth and Scott Shillingburg, and Ryan Knipfer.

She was preceded in death by both children and one grandchild, Stacy Shillingberg, and husband Richard Grosse.

Per Janet’s wishes, no public services will be held. A private family burial will be held.

The family would like to thank all the good people at Four Winds Manor for their wonderful care of Janet. Also, Interim Hospice was a Godsend for Jenny for the last year of her life. Thanks to everybody at hospice!
