Janice Ruth Smedal, age 76, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. Â She was born in Stoughton on July 19, 1933, a daughter of Henry and Alta (Herron) Kirby. Â In 1955, she was united in marriage to David Smedal. Â Janice graduated from UW Madison School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse at Madison General Hospital and at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Â She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and was very involved in the life of the church. Â She was a member of a church circle and worked on the hardanger ornaments for the church Christmas trees. Â Janice and David had been King and Queen of Syttende Mai in 1979. Â In addition to hardanger, Janice was active in golfing, skiing, and knitting. Â She enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes and was an avid reader. Â She loved her family very much. Â Janice is survived by her husband, David; her children, Susan (Lynn) Gregorash of Luck, WI; Eric (Heidi) Smedal of Stoughton; and Kristi (Alan) Seamonson of Columbia, Maryland; 8 grandchildren, Nathan, Aubre, Ayla, Trevar, Nikki, Kalvin, Karter, and Kylen; a brother, Jack (Nancy) Kirby; and a sister, Mary Lou (Glen) Callin. Â She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda. Â Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 Hwy B, Stoughton, with the Rev. Scott Geister-Jones officiating. Â Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery. Â The family will greet friends on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and again at church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Â
