Janice Smedal

Janice Ruth Smedal, age 76, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton.   She was born in Stoughton on July 19, 1933, a daughter of Henry and Alta (Herron) Kirby.   In 1955, she was united in marriage to David Smedal.   Janice graduated from UW Madison School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse at Madison General Hospital and at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.   She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and was very involved in the life of the church.   She was a member of a church circle and worked on the hardanger ornaments for the church Christmas trees.   Janice and David had been King and Queen of Syttende Mai in 1979.   In addition to hardanger, Janice was active in golfing, skiing, and knitting.   She enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes and was an avid reader.   She loved her family very much.   Janice is survived by her husband, David; her children, Susan (Lynn) Gregorash of Luck, WI; Eric (Heidi) Smedal of Stoughton; and Kristi (Alan) Seamonson of Columbia, Maryland; 8 grandchildren, Nathan, Aubre, Ayla, Trevar, Nikki, Kalvin, Karter, and Kylen; a brother, Jack (Nancy) Kirby; and a sister, Mary Lou (Glen) Callin.   She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 Hwy B, Stoughton, with the Rev. Scott Geister-Jones officiating.   Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.   The family will greet friends on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and again at church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
