Janis Hinze

June 6, 1928 — September 19, 2011

Janis M. (Evenson) Hinze, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on June 6, 1928 to S. Theodora (Kingland) and Martin Evenson in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where she grew up. In 1946 she graduated from Stoughton High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950 and worked at the UW Hospital as a registered dietician. On February 9, 1957, Janis married Harry C. Hinze of Madison. After the birth of their daughters, she devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her interest in dietetics continued throughout her lifetime and she was honored by the American Dietetic Association for 50 years of membership. She was an accomplished pianist and took joy in playing for others. She also enjoyed folk dancing and ballroom dancing. Janis loved spending time with her family, especially the week they enjoyed together each summer in northern Wisconsin. She was a longtime member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband Harry; sister Donna Bothner of Oshkosh, WI; daughters Lisa (Daniel) Wahl of Madison, Julie (Dean) Luick of Woodbury, MN, and Laurel (David) Hofeldt of Oakdale, MN; grandchildren David (fianc�e Liz Cooper), Lauren, and Carl Wahl, Megan, Peter, and Daniel Luick, Michelle, Nicole, and Theresa Hofeldt; sister-in-law Hilda Lange of Madison; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Janis' family would like to thank the staff of HospiceCare and Oak Park Place, Middleton for their loving care during the last months of her life. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Boulevard, Madison, with Pastor Katie Baardseth presiding. Visitation will precede the funeral at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Midvale Community Lutheran Church to support the Parish Nurse Ministry.
