Jean Louise Brogaard
Aug. 10, 1944 - Nov. 7, 2023
Jean L. Brogaard, 79, Verona, WI, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at SSM Health Saint Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Jean was born to John and Fern (Seitz) Pfitzer on Aug. 10, 1944, an identical twin of Joan, at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio.
She lived in New York where her father started a Lutheran grade school before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1948. Jean attended Hope Lutheran Grade school and graduated from Lutheran High School South in 1962. She studied at the School of Nursing, Deaconess Hospital, graduating as a Registered Nurse. Jean met John Brogaard, a pastoral student at Concordia Seminary, during that time and they were married on June 8, 1968.
She devotedly worked and volunteered with the community and church in every location she lived, which included Washington, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Jean taught preschool for the Head Start program in South Sioux City, Nebraska for many years. She loved birds and flowers and always enjoyed working in her own gardens as well as visiting Olbrich Gardens in Madison with family and friends. Jean also delighted in bringing joy to others, whether it be with birthday wishes, a friendly note or freshly baked cookies.
Married 55 years, Jean is survived by her husband John, son Andrew of Madison, daughter Kristin Brogaard, her husband David Sherman, and their daughter Telia of Nashville, Tennessee. She is also survived by siblings Joan (Pfitzer) Loesch and husband Keith of Kansas City, Missouri, Jack and Cindy Pfitzer of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jill Pfitzer Jepsen of Oakdale, Minnesota, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Daniel, and her in-laws.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 1:00pm at Lutheran Church of the Living Christ in Madison, Wisconsin, with visitation at noon.
While Jean served humbly throughout her life, if you wish to honor her with a memorial it can be made to Living Christ Lutheran Church Preschool.
Jean’s sudden passing reminds us of how precious life is and her strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. While we look forward to reuniting with her one day, we will dearly miss her welcoming hospitality, generous heart, and big hugs.
